Laurie Parker Swenson has been
an artist all her life, and won an award as early as second grade for a
mosaic piece. Her sewing skills are a legacy from her mother and grandmother,
and she still has her grandmother's sewing cabinet.
Her love of fabrics is particular caught by the feel of the cloth, with
texture and the "hand"of the cloth as well as color and pattern.

Laurie was an art major in college and did a little of everything including
gold and silver smithing, stained glass, weaving, sculpture and ceramics.
"The only thing I DON'T do is draw or paint" she says.
She started making purses with a
special one for her daughter's prom. Her girlfriends saw it and loved it--and
needed their own. so did their mothers, and Laurie has been making purses
since then.
She can incorporate in her designs all the things she was not finding
in store-bought purses. That included special fabrics and colors as well
as what's on the inside, like pockets and color coordinated linings and
hardware.
She cultivates a sense of whimsey in her purses, clutches, handbags
and totes. She really enjoys her work, particularly the creative process
starting at the design all the way through to the finish.
